Cabinet Fit Lab
Measure the old slide, drawer box and cabinet opening before buying replacement drawer slides.
Quick Answer
For most drawer slide replacements, match the slide length, mount type, side clearance and drawer/cabinet depth. Do not buy by drawer front width or cabinet style alone.
Replacement Measurements
| Measurement | Why it matters | Buying note |
|---|---|---|
| Old slide length | Replacement slides are usually sold by nominal length. | Measure the metal slide closed, not the drawer front. |
| Cabinet depth | The slide cannot be longer than the available cabinet depth. | Leave room for brackets, face frames and back panels. |
| Side clearance | Side-mount slides need room on both sides of the drawer box. | Measure drawer box width vs opening width. |
| Mount type | Side-mount, undermount and center-mount slides are not interchangeable. | Match the existing mount unless rebuilding the drawer setup. |
Do Not Upgrade Blindly
Soft-close and full-extension slides may need different clearance, brackets or drawer box construction. Check dimensions before treating an upgrade as a drop-in replacement.
